Pour la 4e édition d’ « Un artiste – Un univers », le Musée des Avelines invite Mathieu Cherkit, jeune peintre figuratif originaire de Saint-Cloud, à investir les lieux en révélant l’« inquiétante étrangeté » de ses tableaux. A travers une trentaine d’œuvres de grand format, huiles sur toile et pastels gras, l’exposition propose un parcours où l’expérience sensitive et l’imaginaire rivalisent d’intensité.
Mathieu Cherkit, diplômé de l’école supérieure des beaux-arts de Nantes, héritier de la nouvelle école de Leipzig dans le sillage de Neo Rauch et de la nouvelle peinture figurative française, a réussi en quelques années à se forger un nom, d’abord en entrant dans la liste des artistes représentés par le galeriste Jean Brolly puis en faisant partie des collections du Fonds National d’Art Contemporain (F.N.A.C.) mais aussi de collections privées de renommée internationale comme la collection Salomon.
Qu’il installe son atelier dans le jardin de la maison familiale ou qu’il plante son chevalet en intérieur, Mathieu Cherkit conjugue matières et couleurs avec force et souplesse. Ses scènes « du quotidien » laissent apparaître une réalité instable et attirante. Un monde empreint d’étrangeté surgit de ces visions à mi-chemin entre réalisme et illusion.
En 2010, dans le cadre du 55e Salon de Montrouge, il présentait des tableaux grand format, mélangeant diverses influences du pop au réalisme. « Ce contact avec les peintures de Mathieu Cherkit me procura la joie authentique d’avoir remarqué une œuvre fraîche et insolente, lors de sa première présentation publique et de compter ainsi dans le premier cercle de ses défenseurs » raconte Jean Brolly.
Comme le fait remarquer la critique d’art Anaël Pigeat : « Il est un coloriste affirmé. Et si ses perspectives ont parfois des allures cubisantes, c’est bien Matisse ou Max Beckmann qu’il cite le plus souvent, pour leur maîtrise de la couleur et de la lumière ».
« La peinture de Mathieu éclate, sature notre regard, nous interpelle, nous dérange peut-être et nous interroge sûrement sur ce qu’est être peintre aujourd’hui… Elle réussit le tour de force de sortir de sa « ringardise » la peinture figurative pour en faire une nouvelle forme d’expression contemporaine » explique Emmanuelle Le Bail, commissaire. A l’occasion de l’exposition, elle a demandé à Mathieu Cherkit de réaliser une œuvre in situ dans la rotonde du musée des Avelines, dont elle est le directeur.
Le « musée-maison de Mathieu Cherkit » permet de prendre la pleine mesure du talent de l’artiste et révèle toute la poésie inscrite au cœur de cette villa des années 30, devenue un musée rendant hommage au patrimoine historique de Saint-Cloud et ouvert sur l’art contemporain.

Un catalogue, richement illustré, apporte un éclairage supplémentaire avec des articles signés par Jean Brolly, collectionneur et galeriste, Yves Brochart, critique d’art, et Anaël Pigeat, rédactrice en chef d’Art Press.
Une vidéo éclairant « les gestes de l’artiste » permet de découvrir le processus créatif de Mathieu Cherkit et plusieurs rencontres avec l’artiste sont prévues.
Au programme : des visites guidées, des concerts, des ateliers pour enfants et une conférence par le peintre Thomas Lévy-Lasne sur la nouvelle peinture figurative française.

Literacy for Life is the second report from the Adult Literacy and Life Skills Survey. It presents additional results on the nature and magnitude of the literacy gaps faced by OECD countries and how these gaps have evolved over the medium term. It offers new insights into the factors that influence the formation of adult skills in various settings – at home and at work – for the eleven countries participating in the first and last round of data collection between 2003 and 2008. The study offers comparative evidence on the impact of various factors on the supply of skill. The study offers a special focus on numeracy skills and problem solving skills. It explores the relationships between numeracy and key socio-demographic factors as well as labour market outcomes and earnings. It highlights the importance of problem solving skills by defining this foundational skill and by exploring its determinants as well as its relative role in influencing important labour market outcomes. The report offers also an analysis of performance across multiple skill domains. It investigates the skill profiles of various population groups defined in terms of the demographic and socioeconomic characteristics of those who score at levels deemed to be low in one or more skill domains and explores the resulting consequences. The report concludes by investigating the issue of skill mismatch in the labour market and its relationship to adult learning. On the 50th anniversary of the OECD, we examine the unique work the organisation performs in regulating and rationalising governments’ use of export credits in support of exports, jobs, economic growth and national interests more broadly. This work is part of a global post war effort to emphasise multilateral co operation and sound economic policies to promote co operation, efficiency and prosperity rather than destructive competition, controversy and conflict. OECD export credits work is one of the basic building blocks of the ever growing structure of global trade agreements that aim to maintain open and efficient markets. The objective is to eliminate subsidies and unfair practices in the economic competition that forms the foundation of a healthy and dynamic global economy. The elimination of official financing subsidies in global trade is only a part of the broader trade policy agenda, but it is a vital part, and has been delegated to the OECD by the WTO. Since financing is the life blood of trade flows, specialised OECD housed work allows trade to flow efficiently for aircraft and other capital goods while other trade policy work and litigation continue at the WTO. The export credits work at the OECD is described in this collection of essays. However it is about much more than the series of agreements described herein. It is more fundamentally about the governments and their people - policy makers and experts - who gather at the OECD to build collectively a system of export credits disciplines that is fair, transparent, adaptable and effective. It is therefore as much about people and ideas as anything else. The export credit secretariat pictured above represents only the latest in a long line of OECD staff committed to facilitate and advise this work. The OECD’s motto on its 50th anniversary is “Better Policies for Better Lives.” This reminds us that in the end, it is policies that are at the centre of human well being. Entrepreneurship at a Glance is a new, recurrent publication that presents an original collection of indicators for measuring the state of entrepreneurship along with explanations of the policy context and interpretation of the data. This publication also includes special chapters that address measurement issues, and solutions, concerning entrepreneurship and its determinants. In this first issue the special topics covered are: business demography, green entrepreneurs and angel capital. This new publication is a product of the OECD-Eurostat Entrepreneurship Indicators Programme, which is a long-term programme of internationally-comparable policy-relevant entrepreneurship statistics. The work involves developing standard definitions and concepts and engaging countries and international Agencies in the collection of data.
